Our History

Bringing KID S and FAMILIES together since 1978

Carey Hall is steeped in family history, perhaps that’s why it’s at the centre of our values.

We consider ourselves a family in our own right but have connections across the years and through blood. Formed in 1978, Carey Hall is the oldest preschool in Winchmore Hill and it is with pride we can say that each member of our team has a long-standing history with us.

Since the 1990s, Carey Hall has been owned by a family connection of Lisa, our current owner and director, who took over in 2014. Lisa’s daughter, Hollie, joined the team in 2018 as a Level 7 qualified practitioner.

Pam Jaggers and Mehtap Salih have worked for Carey Hall for over 20 years, whilst Semay Karamehmet has worked for Carey Hall for over 30 years. Emma started her career in early years education with us 6 years ago and qualified not long after. Semay, Pam’s and Emma’s children all attended Carey Hall as well as Lisa’s three children.

Our educators include experienced mothers and grandmothers, across different generations, different cultures, and all of whom have different interests and skills. We have often been told that we are like an extension of the children’s own family, and we pride ourselves on providing a stable, nurturing, and experience-rich environment. With only 25 spaces at our nursery, we provide an inclusive, caring setting, where the children are given increased one-to-one time with educators and form strong bonds with their peers. The majority of children at Carey Hall go to the same local primary schools and attend their first day with friendships already formed. This smaller setting is a similar size to a primary classroom and aids in preparing the children for school.

Over the years, we have developed good connections with the community and organisations in our area, enhancing the children and staffs’ wellbeing and sense of belonging.

As such an established team, with little turnover of staff, we offer unique stability for Carey Hall children. Combined with the high level of educator experience and expertise, children form a secure attachment with their first educational setting, which benefits them for their entire education.
